Sign Language

Have you ever thought about the importance of the sign language? We know the normal human lives by the essential use of the five senses like the vision, hearing, smell, taste and touch. So, the hearing is as much desirable as living but what about the deaf people? They cannot hear like us; then what is the alternative?

The alternative is the sign language. This is the way of sharing thought to the peoples who is not capable of using the hearing sense, and so they require to be understood the language by some physically done language or symbols. USA and UK are the countries that have gone far away in this sector. They have the most recognized and well organized sign language in the world. A priest from Paris named Charles-Michel de I ‘Epée was the founder of this language. This is the story of the 18th century. In that time, deafness was regarded as the curse and thus the sufferers have to tackle the mental tortures given by the nearer peoples. In such environment, I ‘Epée developed this language as a relief of the deafness suffered people.

For the people of some unusual defects like the deafness or the people with the disability to use the verbal functions, the sign language is the reliever of their misery. As they cannot use the ear or the tongue, the eye can help them in transmitting their thoughts. This is done by creating some symbols or some gestures or even some expressions on the face. We need to communicate with others daily as a vital task. And so, these symbols are the great support of the contemplation transportation to others.

The symbols used for the American Sign Language has its own style and meaning. They are different from the British languages or other available ones. It has some grammar and specific linguistically signs like the pragmatics, semantics, syntax, etc., for example- one gesture (symbols created by the hand) may say ‘I am ok’ and other one may say ‘How are you?’ But each word or thought may not have a gesture, and the gestures may say different thoughts depending on the condition. The communication is so needed to be practiced by both the teller and the listener. For the ease of the understanding, usual facial expressions are also used frequently by the people. The expressions are created by the head movement, eye gazes, and eye brow movement with the function of the simple announcement.

Sign language is not a negligible one. It can serve not only the physical defected peoples but also can help us in other sectors. For example- in the places where we cannot talk or cannot use voice like under water, we will have to use this language surely if we know it. The scuba drivers also use such languages. The person knowing this language can work as an interpreter for the deaf. In some countries, this language is the requirement of the college study as it can meet the problem of learning too many complicated languages. So, try to get yourself involved to become skilled at the sign language to get the benefit in most of the sectors in your life.
